| Is There a Ghost Flushing Your Toilet? |
Have you ever been sitting in your living room, all by yourself, and you're the only one home, watching television, when all of a sudden you hear the toilet flush? It's kind it creepy. There's a good chance that the toilet isn't working properly, there's no need to call Ghostbusters or your local police department. I remember the first time this happened to me, I kept waiting for some sort of entity to come out of the bathroom and I even used logic and assumed the ghost was flushing himself down the toilet. Coming back later of course to flush the toilet again, when I wasn't paying attention. Well it wasn't long before I solved the mystery of the ghost flushing toilet. In most gravity fed toilets, the flapper valve is the culprit. This is a rubber flap attached to a chain, that attaches to your toilet lever. The toilet lever is of course, the handle that you use to flush the toilet. These toilet flappers get warped or build up calcium deposits on them, eventually letting water leak from your toilet bowl into the drain. Almost all toilet leaking inside of the toilet bowl can be traced back to a defective toilet flapper. |
